Planning a dog adventure for you and your dog often means making sure both of you are happy with what you choose to do. That is why deciding on what is likely to be the best kind of dog adventure for your dog is the first thing you should do. Then decide if it something you would like yourself too.

How much hiking will your dog like? -- First decide how much hiking your dog is likely to enjoy on any dog adventure.

Most dog adventures do include a lot of walking or hiking, and a dog that is not in great condition could eventually decide they do not like doing this anymore.

Decide how many miles a day your dog can feasibly hike and still enjoy, and then plan your dog adventure accordingly.

Is the place dog-friendly? -- Find places of the country that are dog-friendly as some simply are not.

Is your dog allowed in a particular state park? Are dogs allowed to run free? Are there rules in specific areas that may just make your dog miserable?

Find out all this and more by downloading one of the many excellent free apps dealing with dog-friendly places.

One day or several? -- Is a one day trip somewhere on a dog adventure long enough, or do you think both you and your dog may enjoy a camping trip together?

Decide how long you think your dog would enjoy being outside with you, and how much time you have available, and then plan accordingly.

Camping trips can be taken all over the United States and beyond, are usually cheaper than hotel stays and a tent can accommodate your dog much better than many other places. Plus, sleeping in a tent is probably a dog adventure your dog would love.
